The plexus adhesive between the torque limiter plate and the bus body may be insufficient, causing the bolts that secure the steering gearbox to loosen.

19V402000 · Service brakes, air30 May 2019 · 147 vehicles

Proterra, Inc. (Proterra) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Catalyst buses. The vehicles are equipped with swivel valves that may insufficiently protect the air brake system from an air leak between the service reservoir and the source of air pressure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

19V283000 · Service brakes9 Apr 2019 · 39 vehicles

Proterra, Inc. (Proterra) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Catalyst 40 buses equipped with an optional tow fitting and airline that allows a tow truck to operate the rear brakes on the vehicle. The mesh cap covering the airline for the tow fitting can be clogged with road debris in inclement weather, possibly resulting in a build up of air pressure in the rear brake system.

19V062000 · Tires30 Jan 2019 · 310 vehicles

Proterra Inc., (Proterra) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Catalyst 40 and 35 transit buses. The affected vehicles are equipped with a four point height control system that may cause a load imbalance, overloading the front tires.

19V061000 · Service brakes, air29 Jan 2019 · 55 vehicles

Proterra Inc., (Proterra) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Catalyst 40 transit buses. The affected vehicles lack a Graham White air brake supply reservoir, possibly resulting in long term moisture build up in the air brake system. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

19V034000 · Equipment16 Jan 2019 · 184 vehicles

Proterra, Inc is recalling certain 2015-2018 Catalyst 40, and Catalyst 35 buses. The certification label may list an incorrect gross front axle weight rating and/or incorrect tire pressures. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

18V750000 · Service brakes, air23 Oct 2018 · 62 vehicles

Proterra is recalling certain 2016-2017 Proterra Catalyst 40 transit buses equipped with axles with radial air disk brakes. Surface roughness of a guide pin in the radial brake calipers may cause the brake carriage guide pin support bolt to break.

Service bulletins

What Proterra told its dealers about the 2017 Proterra Catalyst: known faults, fixes and updates.

BulletinSummary
11011320Service Bulletin for an alternative coolant temp sensor for transit buses as the original sensor installed is challenging to purchase due to supply constraints.
11011233Repair instructions to support transit buses when a charge shunt fails. If the installed charge shunt were to fail we can replace with the original shunt installed, therefore this instruction set provides documentation for installing an alternative.
11010998Service Bulletin for upgraded battery fans on select heavy duty electric buses. Moving to brushless fans to extend the service life of the fans.
11010653Repair instructions for ADA ramp brackets that have come debonded due to water intrusion.
11010425Bulletin to add shim under the steering TLP due to build variances of the bodies and bond gaps.
10181013This procedure is a updates the rooftop battery thermal management system unit brackets to a more robust design.
10179591This retrofit changes the traction motor inverter enable signal from 12 to 24 volts to improve reliability.
10178211This retrofit removes an unnecessary bleed line in the coolant system that may lead to air entrapment and reduced efficiency of the cooling system.
10178209This retrofit adds reflective tape to the front of the bus to comply with California state regulations.
10168950This campaign updates the Grayson battery thermal management system to the latest version for improved performance.
10164633The reason for this software update is to update various controllers. All the included Proterra Catalyst E2 vehicles require a change to the software/configuration for the following items: Battery Pack Software, Charge Controller, ESM Software, Powertrain Controller, DWP/Dash Software, and Body Controller (ZR)
10163631Pin placement in the dash DMUXK connector was incorrect and caused the ICAN network to be improperly terminated. Proterra issued this service bulletin to relocate the pin to properly terminate the ICAN network.
10163629A software error was causing a false state of charge calculation, shutting off the DC to DC converter, causing the low voltage batteries to lose charge. Loss of power to the low voltage battery could cause ancillary systems in the vehicle to turn off. Proterra issued this service bulletin to update the software that will make SOC calculations more accurate and prevent loss of power to the low voltage system.
10163628The brackets and latches on 40ft Catalyst buses holding the lid on the clamshell covering rooftop components can come loose, possibly causing the lid to open. An open lid on a moving vehicle could become damaged or in an extreme case disconnected, possibly causing a hazard on the road. Proterra issued the service bulletin to replace the clamshell brackets and latches with an improved design.
10160526This procedure provides improved grounding for the HVAC unit.
10160522This procedure will replace current Air Compressor and Power Steering Variable Frequency Drive EMI Filter with one of more robust design.
10158603This Technical Service Bulletin updates the software/configuration on the Catalyst E2 Vehicle controllers including the CCS Charger Controller, Dash, Powertrain Controller, Body Controller, and ESM. The bulletins referenced in SC-19-35's notice lines are the previous versions of the software that need to be installed before the new software is loaded on to the buses.
10158602This Technical Service Bulletin updates the vehicle Magnetek. This change will bring the vehicle up to the latest version of Magnetek software and improve charging performance by adding functionality for buses used at multi-charge station sites and other functional updates.
10154939Technical Service Bulletin Front Axle Control Arm Retrofit (RL75EC to RL82EC) was issued to replace the Control Arms on the front axle to allow a higher front axle weight.
10154937Technical Service Bulletin Catalyst 40 FC Vehicle Software Update was issued to update the CCS Charger Controller, Drivers Work Place Controller, Powertrain Controller, Body Controller (ZR), and BMC Software to expand the max number of vehicles that can dock on the Proterra overhead charging system.
