The issue
On certain 318I vehicles, improper starting procedure could cause a backfire into the intake manifold and damage internal components of the idle control valve. This could result in abnormally high idle speed and if warnings of increased engine noise level and tachometer reading are not heeded, a vehicle crash could occur.

Sur certaines BMW 318I, si le moteur est incorrectement lancé, un retour de flamme peut se produire dans la tubulure d'admission et endommager les organes intérieurs de la soupape régulatrice du ralenti. Cela peut entraîner une augmentation anormale du régime de ralenti et, si aucune attention n'est prêtée â 1'élévation du bruit du moteur et à l'indication du compte tours, un accident est possible.
