The issue
On certain Vanagon and Vanagon Synchro, vapors could form in the fuel system during high ambient temperature and become trapped in a fuel filter which is permanently attached inside the fuel tank. If this happens, the fuel flow may become restricted and cause the engine to stall. Engine may also stall when fuel with a higher vapor pressure (up to 14 psi) is used since the main and idle control units are programmed on the basis of fuel with lower vapor pressure. A stalling vehicle in traffic could pose a threat to traffic safety. Correction: install new tank with redesigned fuel filter as well as modified control unit.

Sur certains Vanagon et Vanagon Synchro, par temps chaud, des vapeurs peuvent se former dans le circuit de carburant et rester emprisonnées dans le filtre de carburant situé à l'intérieur du réservoir ce qui risque d'interrompre l'écoulement du carburant. Si l'écoulement cesse, le moteur cale. Le moteur peut également caler si la tension de vapeur du carburant est trop élevée (jusqu'à 14 lb/po2) parce que le circuit de commande principal et le circuit de commande de ralenti sont programmés en fonction d'une tension de vapeur moindre. Un véhicule en panne en pleine circulation constitue un danger.
