The issue

On certain motorhomes equipped with a Cummins ISL CM850 engine, the connecting rod contains a machining defect in the wrist pin bushing of the rod that could cause a seizure of the piston pin. If allowed to progress, this can lead to engine failure with the possibility of the rod rupturing the block cavity, sending oil and debris onto the roadway and causing a vehicle crash. Correction: Dealers will recalibrate the engine control module and enhance the engine protection system, enabling it to provide early detection of the failure mode in order to avoid more serious engine damage and resultant safety hazard.

Sur certaines autocaravanes munies d'un moteur Cummins ISL CM850, la bielle comporte, au niveau de la bague d'axe de piston, un défaut d'usinage qui pourrait causer un grippage de l'axe de piston. Si on laissait le problème s'aggraver, il pourrait causer un bris de moteur; la bielle pourrait briser la cavité du bloc, ce qui provoquerait un déversement d'huile et une projection de débris sur la chaussée et pourrait causer un accident. Correction : Les concessionnaires devront étalonner de nouveau le module de commande du moteur et améliorer le système de protection du moteur, ce qui lui permettra de détecter tôt le mode de défaillance afin d'éviter d'endommager le moteur plus gravement et les risques pour la sécurité qui en résulteraient.
