The issue

On certain four wheel drive vehicles, the rear driveshaft slip yoke may have received improper heat treatment during the manufacturing process. Insufficient hardness may allow the slip yoke to break, causing the propeller shaft to separate at the joint and come into contact with the road surface or the fuel tank. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a vehicle fire. Loss of the rear driveshaft would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash, causing personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the propeller shaft.

Sur certains véhicules à quatre roues motrices, le joint coulissant d'arbre de transmission arrière pourrait avoir reçu un traitement thermique inadéquat pendant la fabrication. Une dureté insuffisante pourrait permettre au joint coulissant de se briser, et à l'arbre de transmission de se détacher au niveau du joint et d'entrer en contact avec la surface de la route ou le réservoir de carburant. Une fuite de carburant, en présence d'une source d'inflammation, pourrait causer un incendie. Si l'arbre de transmission arrière devenait inopérant, le véhicule cesserait d'avancer, ce qui, en conjonction avec l'état de la circulation et de la route, et aux réactions du conducteur, pourrait augmenter les risques d'accident, blesser quelqu'un ou entraîner des pertes de vie. Correction : Les concessionnaires devront inspecter et, le cas échéant, remplacer l'arbre de transmission.
