The issue

On certain motorcycles, the steering damper mounting bolts at the steering head were assembled with an insufficient amount of thread locking compound and could loosen during vehicle operation. Also, due to incorrect assembly tolerance, the steering damper's uniball bearing could separate. Both these issues would cause the steering damper to become disconnected and fail to function correctly, resulting in altered handling characteristics and an increased risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install a special washer at the steering damper's mounting point and apply thread locking compound to the mounting bolts and torque to specifications.

Sur certaines motocyclettes, les boulons de fixation de l'amortisseur de direction au niveau de la tête de direction ont été montés avec une quantité insuffisante d'enduit de blocage pour les filets et pourraient se desserrer pendant que le véhicule fonctionne. De plus, à cause d'une tolérance incorrecte lors du montage, le roulement monobille de l'amortisseur de direction pourrait se détacher. Ces deux problèmes entraîneraient le détachement et le mauvais fonctionnement de l'amortisseur de direction, ce qui modifierait le comportement du véhicule et augmenterait les risques d'accident endommageant des biens matériels ou blessant quelqu'un. Correction : Les concessionnaires devront poser une rondelle spéciale au point de fixation de l'amortisseur de direction et appliquer un enduit de blocage pour les filets sur les boulons de fixation; ils devront aussi serrer le tout conformément aux spécifications.
