The issue

On certain vehicles, the bolts used to secure the housing and sprocket of the intake-side Variable-Valve Timing (VVT) gear assembly could loosen. If this occurs, the VVT gear will not control the intake valves correctly. In some instances, the VVT gear housing and sprocket could separate, causing the engine to stall. Engine stalling would result in a loss of vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the VVT unit with an improved version.

Sur certains véhicules, les boulons utilisés pour fixer le carter et le pignon de l'engrenage de distribution à programme variable (VVT) du côté admission pourraient se desserrer. Si cela se produisait, l'engrenage VVT ne contrôlerait pas les soupapes d'admission correctement. Dans certains cas, le carter et le pignon de l'engrenage VVT pourraient se détacher, ce qui ferait caler le moteur. Si le moteur calait, cela résulterait en une perte de propulsion du véhicule qui, en conjonction avec la densité de la circulation, l'état de la route et les réactions du conducteur, pourrait augmenter les risques d'accident endommageant des biens matériels ou blessant quelqu'un. Correction : Les concessionnaires devront remplacer l'unité VVT par une unité d'une version améliorée.
