The issue

On certain hybrid vehicles, if the vehicle continues to be operated for a prolonged period of time following a cooling system malfunction that causes the vehicle to overheat, the hybrid powertrain control module will shut off the engine, as designed, to prevent damage. This could cause the engine to shut off while the vehicle is in motion, which would result in a loss of motive power which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the software for the hybrid control module, automatic transmission control unit and inverter to allow the engine to continue operating at reduced power in the event of a cooling system malfunction. Note: If this were to occur, a warning lamp would illuminate to warn the operator and the brake and steering systems would remain operational.

Dans certains véhicules hybrides, si le véhicule est exploité pendant une période prolongée après une défaillance du système de refroidissement causant une surchauffe du véhicule, le module de commande du groupe motopropulseur hybride arrêtera le moteur, comme prévu, afin d'éviter tout dommage. Le moteur pourrait s'arrêter pendant que le véhicule est en mouvement, ce qui causerait une perte de puissance motrice qui pourrait augmenter les risques d'accident pouvant entraîner des blessures ou des dommages matériels (ou les deux). Mesure corrective : Les concessionnaires devront reprogrammer le logiciel contrôlant le module de commande hybride, le module de commande de la boîte de vitesses automatique et l'onduleur, afin de permettre au moteur de continuer de fonctionner à une puissance réduite en cas de défaillance du système de refroidissement. Remarque : Si ce problème survient, un voyant s'allumera afin d'avertir le conducteur et les systèmes de freinage et de direction resteront fonctionnels.
