The issue
On certain plug-in hybrid vehicles, the battery Voltage Protection Device (VPD) switch could inadvertently activate. If the VPD switch is activated, electricity to the vehicle's electric motor may be disconnected. If this occurs while the vehicle is driven under Electric Vehicle (EV) mode, the vehicle may experience a loss of motive power, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will remove the current VPD switch and install a newly designed battery management system module containing an overvoltage protection device. The corresponding wiring harness will also be installed. Note: This condition would result in the of the “Check Hybrid System" warning light illuminating.

Sur certains véhicules hybrides branchables, l'interrupteur VPD (Voltage Protection Device) de la batterie pourrait se mettre en position ON subitement. Si l'interrupteur VPD est en position ON, l'alimentation électrique du moteur électrique du véhicule pourrait être coupée. Si cela se produisait pendant que le véhicule roule en mode électrique (EV), le véhicule pourrait connaître une perte de puissance motrice, ce qui pourrait augmenter le risque d'un accident blessant quelqu'un ou endommageant des biens matériels. Correction : Les concessionnaires devront enlever l'interrupteur VPD actuel et poser un modèle de système de gestion de batterie nouvellement conçu contenant un dispositif de protection contre le survoltage. Le faisceau de câbles correspondant devra aussi être posé. Note : Cela ferait en sorte que le voyant d'avertissement « Check Hybrid System » s'allume.
