The issue

On certain vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador), the bolts that attach the power steering gear assist motor to the gear housing may corrode and fracture. This could allow the power steering gear assist motor to move, causing the belt to slip which could result in a loss of power steering assist. A loss of power steering assist would require additional steering effort which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the aluminum mounting bolts with coated steel bolts and will apply a corrosion-preventative sealer around the gear housing and connecting bolts. If a bolt is found to be broken or breaks during the course of the repair, a replacement steering gear will be installed.

Sur certains véhicules vendus à l'origine ou actuellement inscrits dans des zones où l'on épand beaucoup de sel routier pendant les mois d'hiver (Ontario, Québec, Nouveau-Brunswick, Nouvelle-Écosse, Île-du-Prince-Édouard, Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador), les boulons qui relient le moteur d'assistance du boîtier de la servodirection au carter d'engrenages pourrait corroder et se briser. Dans une telle situation, le moteur d'assistance du boîtier de la servodirection pourrait se déplacer et faire glisser la courroie, ce qui pourrait causer une perte de l'assistance de la servodirection. Une perte de l'assistance de la servodirection exigerait du conducteur de déployer un effort supplémentaire pour manœuvrer le véhicule, ce qui pourrait augmenter les risques de collision causant des blessures et/ou des dommages matériels. Mesure corrective : Les concessionnaires doivent remplacer les boulons de fixation en aluminium par des boulons revêtus d'acier et appliquer un scellant inhibiteur de corrosion autour du logement d'engrenages et des boulons. Si un ou des boulons sont brisés ou brisent durant les réparations, le concessionnaire doit installer une nouvelle direction.
