The issue
On certain vehicles equipped with a diesel engine, a software issue could cause the fuel gauge to display a low fuel level and turn on the low fuel light, even though the fuel tank is not nearing empty. This could cause the engine management system to wrongly shut off the engine to protect it from what it interprets as a low fuel condition. This would result in a loss of vehicle propulsion and a loss of power braking assist, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update the vehicle software.

Sur certains véhicules munis d'un moteur diesel, un problème de logiciel pourrait faire en sorte que la jauge à carburant affiche un niveau de carburant bas et allume le voyant de faible niveau de carburant même si le réservoir à carburant n'est pas près d'être vide. Cela pourrait faire en sorte que le système de gestion du moteur éteigne à tort le moteur pour le protéger de ce qu'il croit être un faible niveau de carburant. Cela entraînerait une perte de propulsion du véhicule et une perte d'assistance du freinage, ce qui augmenterait les risques d'un accident blessant quelqu'un ou endommageant des biens matériels. Correction : Les concessionnaires devront mettre à jour le logiciel du véhicule.
