The issue

On certain vehicles, the Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM), which controls the airbag system, may not shut down correctly when the vehicle is turned off. If this happens, the SDM may not work when the vehicle is started, making it unable to detect a crash or deploy the airbags, and increasing the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the SDM with updated software to correct this problem. Note: If the SDM is inoperative when the vehicle is started, the airbag warning lamp would illuminate, a “service restraint system” message would be displayed and warning chimes would sound.

Sur certains véhicules, le module de diagnostic (SDM), qui contrôle les coussins gonflables, pourrait ne pas s'arrêter correctement lorsque l'on arrête le véhicule. Si cela se produisait, le SDM pourrait ne pas fonctionner lors du démarrage du véhicule, ce qui l'empêcherait de détecter un accident ou de déployer les coussins gonflables, et augmenterait les risques de blessures lors d'un accident. Correction : Les concessionnaires devront reprogrammer le SDM à l'aide d'un logiciel à jour pour corriger ce problème. Note : Si le SDM ne fonctionne pas lors du démarrage du véhicule, le voyant d'avertissement des coussins gonflables s'allumera, le message « service restraint system » s'affichera et un avertissement sonore retentira.
