The issue

Issue: On certain vehicles, the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. This recall applies to vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador). Safety Risk: A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to replace the bolts and apply a wax sealer. If one or more of the bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed.

Problème Dans certains véhicules, les boulons qui rattachent le moteur de servodirection électrique au boîtier de direction pourraient rouiller et casser et entraîner une panne de la servodirection. Le présent rappel vise des véhicules initialement vendus ou actuellement immatriculés dans des régions où beaucoup de sel de voirie est épandu (Ontario, Québec, Nouveau-Brunswick, Nouvelle-Écosse, Île du Prince Édouard et Terre Neuve et Labrador). Risque en matière de sécurité Une panne de la servodirection peut soudainement accroître l’effort de direction nécessaire, surtout à basse vitesse, et, du même coup, les risques d’accident. Mesures correctives L’entreprise informera les consommateurs concernés du problème par courrier et leur demandera de conduire leur véhicule jusque chez un détaillant Ford ou Lincoln, afin que ce dernier remplace les boulons et applique un scellant à base de cire. Si un ou des boulons sont cassés ou manquants, un nouveau boîtier de direction sera installé.
