The risk
The product poses a risk of fire because the clearance between the front seatbelt retractor and the sound insulation is too small. In a crash of sufficient severity, with deployment of the front seatbelt pre-tensioner and load-limiter it is possible in very exceptional cases that the sound insulation around the front seatbelt retractor could ignite.
Product: US vehicles manufactured between December 2007 (series launch) and May 2010. Vehicles with a European type-approval are not affected. The US vehicles were sold to members of the US military within Europe.
