The issue

Issue: On certain vehicles, the catalytic converter may be damaged by overheating. This could also cause engine damage or an engine failure. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. An engine failure may also result in a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the engine software updated. This update will prevent overheating of the catalytic converter. Vehicles will also be inspected for other damage. Depending on the results of the inspection, the catalytic converter and/or the engine may be replaced. Note: A driver may notice any of the following symptoms of this problem: a knocking sound from the engine, reduced power or hesitation, and/or the illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or check engine light.

Problème : Sur certains véhicules, le convertisseur catalytique peut être endommagé par la surchauffe, ce qui pourrait également endommager le moteur ou provoquer une défaillance du ce dernier. La défaillance du moteur pourrait causer une perte soudaine de puissance et une incapacité à redémarrer. Risques pour la sécurité : Une perte soudaine de la puissance moteur pourrait augmenter les risques d'accident ou provoquer un incendie. Mesures correctives : Le constructeur doit aviser les propriétaires par courrier d'apporter leur véhicule chez un concessionnaire pour faire mettre à jour le logiciel du moteur. La mise à jour permettra d'empêcher la surchauffe du convertisseur catalytique. Le mécanicien inspectera le véhicule pour déceler d'autres dommages; selon l'inspection, le convertisseur catalytique et/ou le moteur devra être remplacé. Remarque : Un conducteur peut remarquer l'un des symptômes suivants avant une panne moteur : un bruit de cognement provenant du moteur, une puissance réduite ou une hésitation, un témoin d'anomalie et/ou un témoin de vérification du moteur illuminé.
