The issue

On certain vehicles, the bulkhead retainer nut within the steering gear may not be properly torqued and the staking operation omitted. If the bulkhead retainer nut is not properly torqued and staked it may loosen during normal steering gear operation. Loosening of the nut will initially cause excessive lash in the steering system and may progress to a seized steering gear and the inability to steer the vehicle. Correction: Steering gear assembly will be replaced.

Sur certains véhicules, il se peut que l'écrou de retenue de cloison, à l'intérieur du boîtier de direction, n'ait pas été serré au couple prescrit et que l'opération de matriçage ait été omise. Si l'écrou n'est pas bien serré et matricé, il peut se desserrer au cours de la manœuvre normale du boîtier de direction. Au début, le problème se traduira par un jeu excessif du volant mais à la longue le boîtier de direction risque de gripper, ce qui rendrait le véhicule impossible à conduire. Correction : Le boîtier de direction devra être remplacé.
