The issue

Issue: On certain motorcycles, the reverse gear control unit may not have been sealed properly. As a result, water could enter the control unit and cause it to corrode. If this happens, the control unit could short circuit and overheat. This could also cause the turn signals and reverse function not to work. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create the risk of a fire. Turn signals that don't work may cause a person not to recognize when the rider intends to turn or change lanes and could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to replace the reverse gear control unit.

Problème: Sur certaines motocyclettes, l'unité de commande de marche arrière pourrait ne pas avoir été correctement scellée. Par conséquent, de l'eau pourrait pénétrer dans l'unité de commande et la corroder. Si cela se produisait, l'unité de commande pourrait subir un court-circuit et surchauffer. Cela pourrait également empêcher les clignotants et la fonction de marche arrière de fonctionner. Risques pour la sécurité: Un court-circuit peut créer un risque d'incendie. Des clignotants qui ne fonctionnent pas pourraient empêcher une personne de se rendre compte qu'un conducteur a l'intention de tourner ou de changer de voie. Cela pourrait augmenter le risque d'accident. Mesures correctives: BMW Motorrad doit aviser les propriétaires par la poste et leur demander d'amener leur motocyclette chez un concessionnaire pour faire remplacer l'unité de commande de marche arrière.
