Real-world fuel consumption
7,297 Renault Scénic cars registered in Europe between 2021 and 2024 report their fuel use through the on-board meter. Petrol versions average 7.9 l/100 km on the road, against 6.6 l/100 km in the official WLTP test — 20% more.
| Fuel | Cars | On the road | WLTP | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | 7,297 | 7.9 | 6.6 | +20% |
Litres per 100 km: total fuel used divided by total distance driven, from the car's own fuel consumption meter (OBFCM), collected in 2024 by the manufacturers, mostly remotely, and by national authorities. WLTP figures are the type-approval CO₂ values converted to litres. Hybrids, including mild hybrids, do not plug in; plug-in hybrid figures include the distance driven on electricity. The fuel line may be damaged. As a result, fuel may leak onto the road, posing a risk to the following traffic. Furthermore, fuel leakage on hot parts of the exhaust system will increase the risk of the vehicle catching fire.
The NOx sensors may not be properly tightened. This may result in an increased risk of fire.
Capacitors may crack under mechanical stress of the electronic board and overheat. This could lead to a malfunction of the engine cooling fan assembly, increasing the risk of a fire.
The LED module for monitoring and managing the actuation of the rear lights of the trailer could be damaged. Total failure of the rear lights of the trailer could occur.
The mixture ratio of the ignition chemicals in the inflators for the window airbags is not correct. This could prevent the window airbags from inflating in the event of an accident.
Part of the sound insulation can detach which can cause the automatic parking brake to be released unintentionally.
The rear screws on the front seat runners were not tightened. In the event of an accident or sudden braking, the front seats may tip forwards owing to the poor attachment or breakage of the seat runner's fittings.
The drive rotor of the vacuum pump could break, leading to the immediate stop of the vacuum pump and consequent loss of braking assistance and loss of engine power.
There is a risk that the brake pedal becomes stiff due to a lack of braking assistance when the vehicle repeatedly slows down or stops on a slope with the engine at idle speed.
