The issue
On certain vehicles, the bolts that mount the steering gear to the frame can fail due to bolt quality issues which cause variation in the torque-tension relationship for the joint. This results in an inconsistent clamp load, which can cause the bolt to be either over-stretched (at or above yield strength) or under-stretched when torqued to specification. Failure of two of the three bolts could result in loss of steering control. Correction: Dealers will replace the mounting bolts.

Sur certains véhicules, les boulons qui fixent le boîtier de direction au châssis pourraient être de mauvaise qualité et se briser; ces boulons provoquent une variation dans la relation couple tension concernant le joint. Il en résulte un serrage inconstant qui peut faire en sorte que le boulon soit soumis à une trop grande contrainte (à la limite d'élasticité ou au delà de celle ci) ou à une trop faible contrainte lorsqu'il est serré selon les exigences. Le bris de deux des trois boulons pourrait provoquer une perte de la capacité à maîtriser la direction. Correction : Les concessionnaires devront remplacer les boulons de montage.
