The issue

On certain vehicles with gasoline powered engines, the accelerator pedal could move laterally, allowing the accelerator pedal bracket to be hung up on the stopper bolt on the floor panel bracket. This would cause the accelerator pedal to remain in the open position, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will remove and replace the stopper bolt with a flanged plate that will be bolted to the floor bracket to prevent lateral movement of the accelerator pedal. Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 2016-545.

Description (français)

Dans certains véhicules munis d'un moteur à essence, la pédale d'accélérateur pourrait se déplacer latéralement, ce qui permettrait au support de la pédale d'accélérateur de se coincer sur le boulon de butée sur le support du panneau de plancher. Par conséquent, la pédale d'accélérateur resterait en position ouverte, ce qui augmenterait les risques d'accident pouvant entraîner des blessures ou des dommages matériels (ou les deux). Mesure corrective : Les concessionnaires devront retirer le boulon de butée et le remplacer par une plaque à bride qui sera boulonnée au support de plancher afin d'empêcher tout mouvement latéral de la pédale d'accélérateur. Remarque : Le présent rappel s'ajoute au rappel 2016­-545.
