Fatal crashes in the US
From 2020 to 2023, 4,818 Accord vehicles were involved in crashes on US public roads in which someone died, and 3,105 people died inside them. These are counts, not crash rates: a model with more cars on the road shows up more often, and people killed outside the vehicle are not counted here.

A defect in the gas generator of the front-seat passenger airbag leads to uncontrolled inflation and the release of metal fragments when the airbag is activated. This can cause the occupants of the vehicle to be injured.
The battery sensor’s plastic housing may not be resistant to the penetration of moisture. Any penetrating moisture may cause a short circuit, leading to a fire.
A fault with the inflator of the front passenger airbag results in the release, when the airbag is activated, of small metal particles which may injure the occupants of the vehicle.
The inflator's propellant may degrade over time due to heat cycles and exposure to moisture. In case of an accident with airbag deployment, the inflator may burst and metal fragments may be expelled and cause serious or fatal injuries.
Owing to excess internal pressure, inflation of the driver airbag can cause the inflator to split and release metal fragments which can cause injury to the vehicle passengers.
The passenger airbag inflator may produce excessive internal pressure if deployed. The increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture propelling metal fragments causing injury to the vehicle occupants.
