Generations
The Toyota Corolla has had 5 generations. Figures cover the model years in each generation's production run.

| E80 | 1983–1987 | 5 | 2 |
Generations and production years: Wikidata (CC0). Complaints and recalls: NHTSA, US model years; a recall covering several years is counted once. MOT: DVSA, first tests in Great Britain. Where two generations overlap, a model year counts towards both.
Complaints by model year
Each bar is one model year. Highlighted: 2003. The most recent years are still collecting complaints.

Fatal crashes in the US
From 2020 to 2023, 3,290 Corolla vehicles were involved in crashes on US public roads in which someone died, and 2,105 people died inside them. These are counts, not crash rates: a model with more cars on the road shows up more often, and people killed outside the vehicle are not counted here.

Real-world fuel consumption
41,965 Toyota Corolla cars registered in Europe between 2021 and 2024 report their fuel use through the on-board meter. Petrol hybrid versions average 5.2 l/100 km on the road, against 4.8 l/100 km in the official WLTP test — 8% more.
| Fuel | Cars | On the road | WLTP | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | 2,480 | 6.8 | 6.0 | +13% |
| Petrol hybrid | 39,485 | 5.2 | 4.8 | +8% |
Litres per 100 km: total fuel used divided by total distance driven, from the car's own fuel consumption meter (OBFCM), collected in 2024 by the manufacturers, mostly remotely, and by national authorities. WLTP figures are the type-approval CO₂ values converted to litres. Hybrids, including mild hybrids, do not plug in; plug-in hybrid figures include the distance driven on electricity. The replacement inflator of the front passenger airbag may have been installed in an incorrect orientation. In the event of deployment of the airbag, the airbag may not inflate properly.
The propellant in the inflator of the driver's front air bag could degrade over time. If this were to occur, the inflator could rupture in the event of the deployment of the driver’s front air bag.
The gas generator of the driver airbag may rupture upon deployment, increasing the risk of injury in the event of an accident.
In the event that the front passenger air bag is deployed, the gas inflator may rupture projecting metal fragments.
A short circuit may occur in the driver's side power window master switch. The switch assembly may consequently overheat, potentially leading to a fire.
Due to insufficient air flow efficiency in the intake system, oil may accumulate in the intercooler. Under certain driving conditions, the oil may flow into the combustion chamber and might cause engine damage, which may increase the risk of a fire in the engi…
