The issue

On certain trucks, the fifth wheel hitch assembly's lever arm may have been incorrectly installed during the manufacturing process. The lever arm pivot bolt may have been over-tightened which could distort the pivot bolt spacer sleeve and prevent the fifth wheel latch jaw from closing and latching securely around the trailer king pin. This could allow the towed unit to separate from the towing vehicle while underway, potentially causing a crash with injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the pivot bolt and sleeve with a hex head shoulder bolt and washer.

Sur certains camions, le bras de levier de la sellette d'attelage pourrait avoir été mal posé pendant la fabrication. L'axe d'articulation du bras de levier pourrait avoir été trop serré, ce qui pourrait tordre le manchon d'écartement de l'axe d'articulation et empêcher la mâchoire du loquet de la sellette de se fermer et de se verrouiller autour du pivot d'attelage de la remorque. Dans un tel cas, l'unité tractée pourrait se détacher du véhicule de remorquage pendant qu'il roule, ce qui pourrait causer un accident avec blessés ou pertes de vie. Correction : Les concessionnaires devront remplacer le manchon et l'axe d'articulation par une rondelle et une vis à épaulement à tête hexagonale.
